Baddeck Heritage House was built in c. 1884 by Alexander MacLean, a local farmer who had owned the property since 1872. The Vernacular style house was originally a single storey dwelling, a second storey and an enclosed sun porch being added in c. 1888. The original fieldstone foundation was replaced with a concrete foundation, and a shed roof front dormer was added in the 1930's. Percy H. Blanchard, a prominent lawyer in the village of Baddeck was one of the early owners. He owned and resided in the house for over 30 years (1887-1919). In 1919, the property was bought by Murdock McDermid, a leading businessman who owned the iconic White Store (destroyed by fire in December 1973). The family owned the house until 1991, some 70+ years
